Secondary Education Staff (Qld)
Tertiary education includes qualifications undertaken in university (higher education) and Vocational Education and Training (VET) including TAFE and Registered Training Organisations. Tertiary qualifications are required for most employment and careers, and students who continue with further studies usually have better socioeconomic, wellbeing and other life outcomes. Students with disability benefit from educational opportunities that suit their interests, abilities and vocational goals. The transition to tertiary education is challenging for many students and students with disability may need additional support to successfully navigate the systems and practices. Teachers and other school-based staff play a significant role in planning and preparing students for transition into tertiary education.
Overview of Program
This training program is designed for school staff and educators in all sectors who support students with disability who are transitioning or preparing to transition to tertiary education. This includes:
- teachers and learning support staff;
- guidance counsellors and career practitioners;
- disability support and liaison staff, including allied health professionals and participation assistants;
- school leadership teams including heads of departments;
- vocational education officers;
- home school educators; and
- others who work with senior secondary students with a disability.
While the information provided is especially useful to staff who provide career and vocational guidance to students, any staff who teach, guide, and support young people with disability will find the program valuable.
There are five modules in this program, and they are designed to be undertaken in order. You may work through the program at your own pace, and you do not need to complete it in one sitting. You can log out and return, and your progress will be saved. Short quizzes provide checkpoints for understanding, and a certificate of achievement is awarded upon completion of all five modules.
Time to complete: 6 – 8 hours
